Did you see Shame? I would be interested in your review considering the subject matter and rating.
I did see it but didn’t write a review; perhaps I will in the future. The movie has some problems but the performance by Fassbender is undeniably great. Can’t say I’d recommend watching it though.
I feel much more at least with these nominations.
But don’t forget The Interrupters, from the director of Hoop Dreams, for best doc. It was definitely the best documentary I’ve seen this year.

I like this list, in general, but two things:
Foreign language films have to be nominated by their host countries to qualify, so most of your picks wouldn’t. Maybe you know and don’t care, in which case, cool. I don’t really care either. But also: Do you really think The Mill and the Cross qualifies as “Foreign Language”? It only has three speaking parts, and they’re all in English. And Certified Copy is at least half in English (Inglourious Basterds could be a foreign language film under this definition).
Both are great movies, though, and would make my top ten. The only thing I strongly disagree with you about is Melancholia, which is an awful movie.
I think it is great to know that War Horse, The Tree of Life, and The Help are nominated for Best Picture! Other films, however, that should have been nominated are The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Jane Eyre, The Ides of March, Water for Elephants, J. Edger, Conspiracy, and The Other Woman.
